how to catch these largemouth bass I find everyyear that are impossible to catch in a creek?

o.k. every year me and my family go fishing in a creek, in southern missouri, around the beginning of june, and every year we see these big largemouth bass, and i throw my line right out by them and they don’t even hesitate to go for my bait, like it is not there, I have tried almost everything, live and artificial, top water, worms, u name it, worms aren’t very successful because the perch get them first. Does anybody know how to catch these? I will not accept the idea that it is impossible, I believe if they are there, u can catch them, and there any other way to catch them without a poll that is legal? my friend fishes a lot and in tournaments and says if u can see the fish, then they can see u, and that they are smarting than we think, and that these fish know what is real and fake, and he said I wont catch them. I fail to believe that, I think I can, does anybody have a sujestion, or can anybody help me, please? thanks

I’m assuming the creek is pretty highly fished. The most important thing you need to do is match up your bait as closely as possible to their primary food source in the creek. Being a creek, they probably feed very heavily on minnows, shad, and other baitfish that swim by. Go with shad imitating baits fished as natually as possible. You can throw things like swimbaits, plastic jerkbaits, and spinnerbaits to accomplish this task. I’m a huge fan of the plastic shad/minnow imitating lures for situations like this. You can throw the bait out and make it look very good in the water and give it that natural looking edge that you need. If you take this route, fish the bait very slow. Letting the bait make a slow fall with twitches in between will give the bait an injured baitfish look, which a fish will very rarely turn down. Again, match your sizes and colors up accordingly with whatever baitfish are in this particular creek.

Bass are not particularly smart, and will be catchable with multipl baits. There is a possibility that early june may still be spawn or post spawn and that may have an effect. Irregardless, try a wacky rigged 5in senko in green pumpkin, or dropshot a berserkbaits insane shaker worm in green pumpkin with black and purple flake.

they are most likely guarding their bed.
they will only go after something that is a danger to the nest.

drag a craw on top of the nest and let it sit. short hop a couple of times, throw again.
they will probably try to pick it up and move it. it is often hard to get a hook in when they do this so if you use a trailer hook you could eliminate that headache.

but patience and lettng the bait just sit there in there face on the bed is the best way…sometimes they still won’t go, but that’s part of the game.

Alex, as a tournament angler, you should know that bass ARE in fact smart…

In my own personal experiences, IF the bass can see you, it won’t go for any type of bait because it sees you as a predator (which you are, score one for the bass).

IF you drag a craw fish over the bass’s nest, make sure that it isn’t the spawning season because in more places than not, it is ILLEGAL to fish bass during spawn.

If it is not spawn time, my advice to you would be to go downstream about 15 feet, cast your lure past the bass and reel it back in front of them… OR just get you a live minnow, hook it through the back meat, avoiding the guts and the spine, cut a piece off both sides of its tail so that it can’t swim properly, drop it in front of said bass, then walk out of sight with your rod.
