I caught 4 peacock bass today only using a Berkley rubber fish and my Rapala minnow didnt work?

i also used a strike king spinner bait and the peacock werent even interested in it. i also used my Rapala minnow Husky Jerk and the peacock werent interested either..i thought Rapalas were supposed to produce big hits and i would not expect a simple soft bait and hook would do the job whats up with that? also, what are the best Rapalas for peacock, tilapia, bluegill, largemouth bass, etc..

You have stumbled upon one of the secrets of bass fishing.Giving the fish what they want instead of what you think they want. The action, size, shape or color or a combination of all four produced fish. That’s why most all successful bass fishermen have such large tackle boxes. If one type of lure was the best to use, there would be no need to carry around a big box full of lures all the time. And in my area waters no one uses Rapala lures any more. It seems the Bandit crank bait is now king of the crankbaits, at least in my home waters. But each lake is different and on some waters the Rapala may still be the hottest crankbait on the water.

    Thumbs, dumdum.

Unless you’re using a heavy duty saltwater Rapala Magnum or something like that, none of them are going to withstand any hit from a peacock bass. Down south they’ve been known to totally demolish cheap, mediocre lures, breaking them or completely ripping hooks out from connectors and tearing apart jointed lures.

Plus I’m not a fan of overrated lures, such as Rapalas.
