I never use them. Some methods using live bait (which I seldom if ever use) are best presented with floats. Fishermen that use live shiners often tie a small ballon to their line in place of a plastic float. This allows the balloon to suspend the bait off the bottom and makes it possible for the balloon to slide up the line with little friction or resistance into heavy cover without becoming tangled or hung up.

Here again a fishing question can have many answers. I would highly suggest going to the sport shop and getting some lead head jigs ( Plain ) 1/8 3/8 1/2 ounce and some pumpkin colored ” Gulp ” brand twister tailed 3 and 4 inch rubber worms. I have more luck on that than floats and bait. Have fun. The worst day of fishing is much better than a good day of work.

No real fisher uses bobbers/corks/floats for bass. Stick with jigs or minnow baits for smallies, and spinnerbaits or jig/pig for bucketmouths
