night crawlers
iv never heard of a peacock bass….maybe live bait?
You are lucky to live in an area with peacock bass around. Where are you from? Try switching things up a bit. While using a buzzbait, try to slow it down or speed up, try a smaller size or a different color. Try the same thing for other topwaters. Add a different action to the lure like walking the dog. You may be successful by trying a more finesse approach. There truly are several different things to try to get those fish to bite. Sometimes you have to go for a reaction bite while other times it can be a matter of simply aggravating a fish into biting. It takes a little persistence, catching fish is not as easy as tv will lead you to believe.
hey man, i have found that when going for the peacock bass a top water stick bait works well. the devils horse is a great lure. instead of cast and retreive try the “walk the dog” method. cast out and let it sit for a second. jerk it to the left and then to the right. not too hard just hard enough to make it slide on the water. only reeling that you do is to reel up the slack. the body of the horse will make a good comotion but there are also spinners on each end of the bait. the spinners will help with getting the peacocks attention.
for largemouth i would suggest trying the football head jig with a crayfish trailer. for one the crayfish is the largemouths number one source of food. you can fish it like a rubber worm but slow it down. so slow it hurts. cast out let the jig hit the bottom and twitch the jig on the bottom letting the football turn up what is ever on the bottom. pull up everynow and then and retrieve it like a texas rigged worm.
there are videos on line that will explain in more detail how to work the jig. just google crayfish jigs and techniques.
i hope that helps you a little. good luck good fishin be safe and remember to share the exprience
well my easy simple solution is to use real bait.sometimes real bait is the way to go.my opinion is to use live minnows or live worms.better yet if your sure its large-mouth bass use live minnows.for peacock bass i would not know see i live in virginia.but i can tell you one thing.if you really want to know how to catch peacock bass ask anyone who fishes and lives in south america just say peacock and they’ll say bass.but there is one lure that i use that can catch any fish for me.and that’s the banjo fishing lure.and trust me there is no better lure than the banjo fishing lure.its the most realistic lure you’ll ever find.also ive seen a video of the inventor catch a peacock bass with the banjo minnow.i wish i could find it online but im positive that the banjo minnow can catch a peacock bass because i saw the video of it in a river in the amazon.i know that fish from different countries behave differently but if it can be done in the amazon it can be done in Florida.have a happy fishing experience and the best of luck to you.keep the stick on the ice.
are you serious….omg have u tried live bait? I betchya that do the trick!
Oh and a stick bait…thats a topwater lure…its called “walking the dog” jerk the bait back and forth while retriving…
A stick bait is any type of straight hard plastic or balsa wood bait. Original Rapala floater, Devils Horse, Woodchopper are all considered stick baits but most refer to jerkbaits.Basically any hard jekbait. Which is what you should be using to catch both largemouth and the butterfly peacocks in the canals around Miami. A Rapala X-Rap or Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnow are good choices. Or anything similar.
Peacock bass are easily caught in my area.
We use lures(I recommend minnows) or feathers tied in a row using the drop shot method or plastic worms(Drop shot method as well).
If baiting try the floater rig.
Main thing is to cast into the where all the action is and wait.
The strike timings for lures and plastic worms differ.
You have to give plastic worms slightly more time before striking. This is to allow the bass to suck in the plastic worm and carry it off in its mouth.
The peacock bass in Florida are different than those from the Amazon and what not. I’m not saying it’s a new species or anything, I’m saying that you can’t go after them the way you would as on those T.V. shows where guys are tossing out huge top water lures. I think you will benefit from the video http://www.myoutdoortv.com/maps/administrator/video.php?v=qP1kyyp7KDBceWO_0dj2rtH0sZgrGYW_
by Jim Anson, the expert in Peacock Bass fishing in South Florida.
Catching Peacocks isn’t hard, we just make it harder for ourselves by getting confused with the many lure choices. One thing to remember, Artificial worms do not work on Peacock bass. You can also hire Jim to take you to his personal spot right smack dab in the middle of the Miami Speedway. Watch cars race while you catch Peacocks, that’s cool!
As for bass, try the same deal that you would for Peacocks. They’re all usually around each other so catching a mix bag isn’t unusual. If you are near the Tamiami trail you can also catch Peacocks, Large mouths, Tarpon, Snook and more using the same techniques in the video. It’s all pretty simple so why make easy fishing complex?~good luck catchin.’
try real bait like shiner(minnows). you should be able to get them at a fishing shop. or… use fake frogs. they work really well. you can get them at dickssporting goods but they are like 6$ a piece. but thats the key to catch bass.. fake frogs
I’ll make this answer short and to the point. Since you’ve tried artificial and that hasn’t produced, try using live bait. To be more exact, use minnows. Catch or buy some shiners to try. Just make sure you keep them alive. Put them in a cooler or gabage can with an aerorator. Happy fishing. I think you will find that this will work.
