Largemouth Bass Aquarium Setup?

If i use a Aquatech 20-40 will i also need an aerator? I have a 37gallon tank and plan on stocking it with a bass. If I use pea gravel will i need a undergravel filter, or will the Aquatech do the job. What is the cheapest food that will keep a largemouth happy and well fed?
Obviously I’m not keeping it once it get too big I’m releasing it into my friends pond. Anyone going to answer my actual question?

You will need a much bigger aquarium to house a largemouth bass.

Large mouth bass will eat anything, they eat flakes, pellets, live foods, frozen foods, small children. Basically anything that fits in their mouth. You can’t keep them in a 37 gallon tank that long though. I mean your set up is perfect for other cold water fish that don’t grow so large but bass both large and small mouths get to be HUGE. You will need something in order of around a 300 gallon tank to keep a fully grown happy. That’s really the only reason they don’t make good pets, other than that they are very hardy and interesting fish to keep. Of course if they are native fish to your area I guess you could go threw the trouble of keeping them till they get too large and then juts letting them go but make sure you don’t keep them too long and stunt them. They are also a solo set up kinda fish, no tank mates with them. They will eat anything they can fit in their mouths.

    Good Luck

Do NOT release the fish into local waters!!!! The fish in local rivers and lakes tend to be controlled by a state agency. In order to stop the spread of some prolific disease, most states do not allow you to release fish into these waters! You can be hit with heavy fines and other legal problems! It’s never a good idea to release any fish into the wild unless you get the fish from a state hatchery… even then you can have issues proving you got it locally.

Your tank is to small to house a large mouth for long.Purina puts out trout pellets.Check feed mills or if your lucky a pet store that sells bulk food and repackages it in smaller amounts. A rock bass is much better suited for aquarium life,or even a small mouth.

You need at least 300 gallons for a large mouth bass. a 37 will end up killing the fish in one year as you will stunt it.

Large mouth bass do not even make good pets. i had a 1.5 feet large mouth bass in my 125 and it doesnt make a good pet. They produce alot of waste and i ran my rtank with 2 canister filters. HOB filters will not work long term as these fish produce large waste. Where HOBs are meant for smaller fish like community fish waste.

Dont do it, your going to kill it. underground filter or HOB …. is not even the question. You need at least 100 gallons for now and at least 2 canister filters.

I have owned 2 large mouths, 1 sunfish, 1 florida gar…. They dont make great pets espically if you cant provide enough supplies for it.
