only those who want to get busted and get their butts nailed to the wall.
but l guarantee it would/will work.
who, me???
l would never, EVER stoop to such a dastardly trick.
I’m sure it would work great for them but no, I’ve never attempted it. A little risky if you ask me. My favorite thing to throw for Stripers are Shad. Shad seems to do the trick for both Stripers and some big Largemouth Bass.
I’ve thought about it long and hard but still haven’t done it. I would LOVE to do it. I KNOW it would work VERY well. Especially during stocking of the trout. Have you watched the way bass herd and corral hatchery trout right after they’ve been dumped into a lake?
It’s awesome watching the bass chase them. But it’s illegal and that’s what a big swimbait is for.
I’m not mentioning any names or anything but I’ve heard of somebody (on here) either using them or witnessing them being used.
I never would, however, was fishin’ a frequented river of ours and met some guys that were Trout fishin’, specifically for Striper bait. Saw pics they had in their truck and I like ta’ pass a brick ~ 10-15-20 lb., stripers with Trout for bait. S _ _ t thing bout’ it, these guys had some really nice “Bow’s” (Rainbow Trout) on them and I’m talkin’ 5-8 pound’ers. H _ _ l, busted my a _ _ only to get a couple of 16 incher’s!
Don’t know where you intend ta’ do it (not sure you will) but, don’t tell anyone;)…

As others have said it would certainly work. The other point they make is the legality. Check your local regulations, there are some places that allow using gamefish for bait, but they are very few.
i threw a rainbow trout swimbait andcaught some nice bass on them im pretty sure a real trout would work but i think they might be too expensive
When I last lived in Georgia, it was totally legal to stop off at the Wynn Dixie grocery store on your way to Lake Lanier to buy a half a dozen 12″ rainbow trout from the meat department where they swam around in an aquarium. They were put in a live well or in an ice chest with an aerator attached and taken to the lake to fish in the late afternoon and well into the night. The trout were hooked just under the dorsal fin and suspended about 7 or 8 feet down below a partially inflated balloon. For extra visibility, a light stick was inserted in the balloon before it was blown up. When BIG stripers took the trout down into deeper waters, the balloon would break. I had a taxidermy studio in Georgia at that time and I had customers who brought in 40# + stripers to be mounted that had been caught using that method. That would have been in the late 80′s. Back then, there were also NO restrictions on the number of poles you could use. I remember seeing a couple of guys in a wooden boat fishing for crappie with over a dozen rods spider-legging over the sides. The rules and regulations could be much different now than they were then. Before you try this yourself, I would make sure I totally understood my state regulations. Better safe than sorry, right? The “GOOD OL’ DAYS” may be long gone. And depending upon which state you call home, one man’s legal pleasure could be another man’s illegal pain! Good luck!
Yes it would work i’m sure but stripers are more into eating shad. Here in Pa if you catch a legal trout while rod fishing we can use that fish as bait as long as it is at least the legal size of 7″. Be sure to check your state regulations.
the best bait ever with lots of blood and if possible buy pike bombs they work great for attracting bass particular the blood and oil one
