Need catfish/largemouth tips?
So i bought some of that blood catfish bait, and every time one of them takes the hook (it’ll like drag the bobber a few feet under) i’ll try to set the hook but it never hooks. when i retrieve it the whole piece of bait is still there. is it just dry? or do i need a smaller hook?
For bass, just whats a good lure to use? rapala and gitzits i find work well, but i keep catching smaller bass with them.

For largemouth I find that that it is best to use Sinkos for bigger bass, For catfish i just use a small circle hook weights with chicken liver
the best bass lure is a Yamamoto Senko.
use the 4″ on a 2/0 mustad ultra point g lock worm hook (no weight)
use the 5″ on a 3/0 mustad ultra point g lock worm hook (no weight)
let the catfish take the bobber a little longer. most people that miss fish bobber fishing do so because they set the hook far too quickly.
Not much of a catfish guy but it just sounds like you need to switch hooks, I’d try a circle hook.
For bass however the most commonly successful baits I would say are a 6 inch plastic worm or lizard carolina rigged. Fat bodied crank baits work great and you can cover water fast with them and they often produce bigger fish. Or a simple spinner bait worked just across the tops and edges of weed beds.
As far as catfish here’s a good idea…you can use that or get some nightcrawlers and get some of that blood/catfish scent spray and soak the worm down. Get a half way big hook so the fish won’t get away …
for bass I’m a plastics guy…something with a lot of tail action
If you want to catch some nice big catfish the best bait is “BLUEGILL”. That’s “live” bluegill…the flat heads love them and so do the channel. Good luck to you…
It’s not the bait. I would only use night crawlers on a bobber. Take a hook and put it on your line with about eight inches line left. Tie a weight to the other end and throw it on the bottom and tighten your line till it is just tight enough to move the rod tip. Place it in a fork or rod holder first though. This will place your bait around two inches of the bottom. This is where your big cats are. on a bobber you may just have small cats or turtles eating your bait. Catfish are gonna be most active early in the morning because they feed at night. If its afternoon chances are it’s turtles unless your fishing in a river. As for bass I use plastic worms I have a variety of the but the ones with the bright colored tails work best for me.
