    Not sure about the limits.

Large mouth usually has a greenish tint & Small mouth a brownish tint.

The Jaw bones are shaped different as well.

Check on line at Florida Fish & Game, they should have pics of both & the limits.

Maybe Brandon will know size limits as he is a Florida bass man.
To tell the difference, a largemouth bass will have a jawbone that extends beyond the eye and a smallmouth jaw bone won’t. Of course the coloration is usually a dead give away. Largemouth are green with black markings along the lateral line and have white bellies. A smallmouth is a bronze color with dark patterns over most of the body and have a grayish color to their belly. Small mouth also have a distinctive red circle around their pupils.

Don’t know what the size limit in FL., is best ta’ check with Florida Fish and Game or as far as that goes just about any fishin’ tackle shop will tell ya’… Here’s a link that will show you physical differences and a run down of habitats for each species…

I do not think you have smallmouth bass that far south. The smallmouth bass is very easy to recognize. First when you catch one, it will fight ten times harder then a largemouth, second the fish is brown. Third the fish has a much smaller mouth then a largemouth. Check you local fish and game for the size measurements and always practice catch and release!

Size limit im almost 100% sure is 12 in, it may be 10 but thats a pretty small bass to keep. FL does not have smallmouth, but As far as the difference the largemouth bass will almost always have a distinct black stripe along his back and it will have a mouth too large for his head(hence teh name) smallmouth are mor of a brown color and are generally smaller. here are som pictures

Well first off Florida is one of 2 states that doesnt have smallmouth bass and definately none in Tarpon Springs so that is no real concern if your fishing Florida

As far as size limit you need to look under each lake you fish in Florida , here is a link to the regulations lots of Lakes are catch and release . If your lake or pond isnt listed go by the state wide regulations for your species of fish.

    Here is the link

Florida does not have Small Mouths…but in some places you have the Spotted Bass, Shoal Bass, Redeye, and Suwanee Bass…

Spot- Is more brightly colored than the LM, it has spots…lol…brown eyes…and the mouth is not as big…but to makes sure it is not a LM…a spot has a tooth patch (usually) on in it’s tongue…so if you rub your finger over the tongue and it is rough it is a spot…

Redeye and Shoal Bass look a lot alike…they both have red eyes…but a Shoal Bass is more of a blueish green and they get a lot bigger than a Redeye…so if it is over 2lbs…more than likely it is a Shoal Bass…they are both kin to a spot so they too sometimes have tooth patches on their tongues…the Shoal Bass can be found in the Flint and Chattahoochee rivers and lakes on them…

The Suwanee is a rare bass that lives I believe in Northern Florida and parts of Southern GA…never seen one…

For sizes you have to check the lake or river where you are fishing…usually Spots and other bass have a 12 in limit…but for example the lakes I fish that have LM …Martin- 12in, Eufaula- 14in…West Point- 14in…Clark’s Hill- 12in…so it is usually between 12 and 14…I like to catch the ones I don’t have to measure…=)~
