What are good crankbaits for small, shallow ponds/reservoirs?

OK, so i have a lot of crankbaits. Both deep diving and shallow diving. The thing is, i have never caught anything on them. I dont know why, they just dont seem to work for me. What are some good crank baits i can buy for a shallow pond?

* I fish for largemouth bass *
I use a lot of other lures like spinnerbaits, topwaters.. i just want suggestions on crankbaits nothing but crankbaits..
STOP TELLING ME ABOUT OTHER LURES! ALL I WANT TO KNOW IS ABOUT CRANK BAITS!

  • Backwater Charlie:

    Shallow running crankbait. Mann’s Baby 1-Minus in a shad finish.

    Any shallow running crank like Backwater mentioned will do. Try matching your colors up with their natural feeding habits. For example, if they feed on shad use a shad colored lure, if they feed on bluegills use a sunfish color, and so on.

    You could try a rapala or even a spinner bait.

    You need to know the water temperature. The Ideal temperature for bass is 77degrees. Presentation is also a big factor.. Keep changing your presentation and colors until you hit the right combo.

    Rebel Humpbacks might do well or try some top water poppers.

    Don’t think it’s the crankbait, but picking up a Rapala Husky Jerk wouldn’t be a bad idea either.
    I think the problem is that you are working the bait too fast and mechanically. You want to be as organic with your movements as possible. Give a little pop on the line a second or two after the bait hits the water, reel in sporadically popping and twitching the rod occasionally (just don’t over do it), generally going pretty slow but changing speeds as you go.

    MANN’s baby 1 minus is the best shallow crankbait i have ever used. especially with hot chartreuse color even in water that has over 7 ft visibility.

    works best over the top of grass beds or shallow cover. sometimes reeling it so slow it just barely wiggles on the surface. sometimes getting it down to it’s max diving range. sometimes a stop and go presentation. sometimes just kind of popping it like a top water popper. that works best for spooky fish. just barely twitching it so the nose dives under without making a splash and the on the pause it pops up and then back level again. you can get a lot of work this way while barely moving it toward you so it stays in the area working for a very long time.
