if they are picky i would go the finesse route. texas rig a plastic worm (or if that doesn’t work go smaller with a 4 inch grub or tube) on an extra wide gauge worm hook, with as small of a bullet weight as you can get away with (1/8 oz or so). i would probably go with crayfish colors( motor oil or watermelon) depending on the water color–try to match the water color with your bait. drop it in the weeds or in deeper slack water, and retreive it VERY slowly. just let it sit on the bottom for 20- 30 seconds, pull your rod tip up then let it fall again. reel in the slack and repeat. caught some in the worse conditions ever.

  • The shop:

You could also try a “buzzbait” at either dawn or dusk as this may trigger a strike from some of the larger residents of the pond.

  • AMP:

swimbaits always produce for me, sometimes you get a reaction strike out of picky fish

umm, get some live shiners. sounds fun.

  • F K:

Little spinner baits there the best trust me.

  • cory t:

    dynamite

  • Angry-T:

Get a # 10 longshank hook. Thread the worm straight on it, where it follows the bend of the hook with none left over. Use it to catch some very small bluegill. Put those on a large hook below a large bobber and cast around likely cover. This should work well. Another way to catch picky bass is to rig nightcrawlers like a plastic worm and fish them like a plastic worm, hopping them off the bottom then letting them fall and sit for a few seconds. Let your line go slack as the worm falls and watch it closely. When you get a bite give the bass time to take it before you set the hook.

If the pond is free of moss or very little I would say the old trusty rattle trap baby bass or a crawfish , and if that is not what you want to here a small black and yellow spinner bait.

  • shoot2kill:

    Texas rig a zoom lizzard.

  • Hater of False Religion:

Spinnerbaits always work well for me in ponds. Small crankbaits also work good. Sometimes it will be good to use a similar color to the natural hatch, but other time I would use a brighter color.

Never had any problems catching fish. Usually a bluegill will actually follow my bait back, sometimes even biting at it.

    wax worms
    leaches
    nightcrawlers
