What do really young largemouth bass look like?

I was fishing today, and these “little” fish (5-6″ long), grey with a dark stripe down the side, kept following my bait as I reeled it in. This was in East Coast fresh water. Any ideas?

    Sure sounds like largemouth bass.

  • mac:

shiners, chub ,bass that size look like smaller versions of big bass.

Yes they look like that & will follow any such bait…at that age they stay in groups of 10 or less.

  • john d:

Largemouth bass no doubt. Just look on the internet under largemouth bass. take a look

  • BASS Fisherman:

They most likely were LM bass. Can you remember if the last portion of thier tail had a vertical black stripe? If yes, they were positivily LM bass. Tight lines.

agree w/Mac. Little bass that size are small version of bigger bass. In my part of U.S., that means a shade of green. If not some species of minnow family, I havent a clue.

baby bass look like elongated perch (bream), the main trait is the last quarter of the tail, it will be black.
