What is a good “Go-To” Lure for Largemouth Bass?
My buddy and I are always having friendly competitions for fishing, so we like to keep score. He typically uses worms/lizards and lip/lipless crankbaits while I use nearly exclusivly spinner and buzz baits.
Thats great and we are usually pretty even at the end of the day, but some days when he is behind in the count early, he can slap on his Banjo Minnow and grab a couple small guys to catch up.
My fishing arsenal doesn’t have something like that. Im looking for an idea on some unique bait to throw around to change the pace from the standard bass baits.
I have the Flying Lure, which I used to swear by, but it hasn’t produced. Maybe I need to stick with it?
Thanks much!!!

Wow! The flying lure? And you caught a fish on it? You get my vote for worlds greatest fisherman based on that one fact. But to your question. Here would be my go – to lure when the spinners did not produce. A Senko type lure fished weedless and Texas rigged. It is fished very slow, with numerous twitches and pauses on the retrieve. Some times the fish will hit it while it is sitting there. This is the only method and lure that will consistently hang in there with a spinner bait and will keep producing fish when the spinner bait bite has tapered off. It will be extremely hard to fish it slow enough after burning the waters up with a spinner bait, but master it and you will have another weapon in your arsenal. I have to assume that your buddy is using weights on his plastics. This will give you a lure he isn’t using. That will be to your benefit. Good luck!
What about a Jig?
A 1/4 oz jig, in your favorite color, with a plastic grub or piece of pork. I’ve even seen jigs with spinners. Last weekend I caught a 4lb bass on a yellow round 1/4 oz jig head with a white plastic single tail grub attached.
The Heddon Tiny or Baby Torpedo`s Bass jump on these like theres no tomorrow.

My go to bait in tournaments have caught me many huge bass. These bass i have caught have been in the sex and seven pounders. It doesnt only catch big fish but also a lot.
This bait is the sluggo. It is a soft plastic worm that i rig wacky style and jerk it a couple times and bam big fish.

take a look at the reviews and buy the color you want. My most succesful color is the 05 but pick the one you want.
I rely on this bait so give it a try.
Good LUCK!!! And Good Fishing!!!
flying lures.
banjo minnows.
l say stick with them. you probably wouldn’t have much luck with my plastic worms. they are just standards and not very unique other than the fact that l catch fish on them.
a lot of fish.
big ones too.
Why don’t you try the walking worm? Or the bite light? Or all those gimicky lures for Christ sakes!!! Fish you some weight less Texas rigged plastic worms. The Wormist is right, if you want something unique you better stick with your flying lures or borrow some of his banjo’s.
