Strike King’s Rage Tail Toad is probably the ABSOLUTE BEST topwater frog I’ve ever used. I’ve used others, but they don’t work or produce as well as these do.
These frogs are expensive, but they’re worth every penny. If they’re rigged right, they’ll last about two or three fish, four if the last strike isn’t an agressive one, which it probably will be.
The Strike King Rage Tail will produce a lot of action. But the lure is about a dollar a frog and will sometimes become worthless after one strike of a bass that you did not catch. The tails that produce the action is very fragile and if one tail is damaged the action is gone.I love the lure but can’t stand the expense of fishing it. I use the Stanley Ribbet Frog in red pearl color when I use a frog. It doesn’t catch as good as a Rage Tail but at least I can afford to fish it.
try a snag proof on the moss what fun
Rage Tail’s are quite impressive. I’ve used them myself. Not caught anything, but used them. Very, very lot of action. About as much as a 1/4oz buzzbait. If the fish are wanting something slower or you want a hard-bodied frog, try the Spro Bonzeye Frog Jr’s.
My fav is the Spro, Bronze-Eye Frog, (seen here)- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_73278____SearchResults
I wasn’t sold on this lure until I watched the Tournament director for my Bass club hammer a nice 5LBer one day last year.
Stupidly, I rushed out and bought frog colored Spro’s and quickly found out that the “best colors” for the Bronze-Eye is either Black or White. (Who knew??)
When I switched to Black or White I started hammering them too!
(Black works best during cloudy conditions and White is better for bright conditions.)
Next to the Rage Tail, I think the Spro Bronze-Eye is tops.
Hope this helps ? When you go to check out the Spro link look at the feedback it has received……125 people give it a 4.3 out of 5!
I give it a 5!
Wow!
l see a lot of votes for the rage tail!
here’s another. the rage tail is TOPS! rig it with a 5/0 hook. when the legs begin to tear, repair them with “mend-it” or one of the other glues made especially for soft plastics.
or weld them with one of the small battery operated tools made just for this and cutting braids.
you can probably get another use or two by just melting a bit of the plastic with a lighter then pressing the parts back together.
the old “bill plummer” frog was another great frog lure. sat just right in the water and the legs jerked realistically with every little twitch of the rod.
hell…l even got a big ol’ bullfrog on one once. a frog on a frog!
