What is the best bait for small creek fishing,(Rock Bass, Small and Largemouth bass, Catfish, Sauger)?

I go to a samll creek in Indiana and have always used live bait. The biggiest fish i have caught there is a 3 pound largemouth. The world of artificial bait always interested me so i want to get some that would be good for small creeks. Ive looked at crankbaits plastics worms spinners and i dont no what to get so please help me THANKS

Try curly tailed grubs rigged on jig-heads. Get assorted sizes, I catch tons of bluegill and largemouth bass (along with green sunfish and crappie) using just a 1″ curly tailed grub in the color white, rigged on a small jig head of 1/16oz. Cast and retrieve it close enough to the surface to watch the fish bite. This is the most fun way of doing it.

I also use Mann’s Hardnose 2″ Curl Tail grubs in the color, “pumpkin pepper”. This time, I rig them with a 1/8oz jig head and reel them slowly next to the bottom. I’ve caught only largemouth on this but it will burn the smallie’s up. And I say a catfish will hit one too if he gets close enough.

Rooster tails will work too, 1/8oz size will catch all of those fish. Use the white for clear water, yellow for partly stained, and chartreuse for muddy. I’ve also had luck with tubes rigged on jig-heads just like the grubs. I use Cremes tubes but a lot of people make these 1 1/2″ tubes. Rig ‘em on a jig head and bounce them off the bottom. This is a crappie magnet, but I’ve caught bluegill, green sunfish, and a bass or two on them.

Bring lots of different lures with you. Full-sized crankbaits, plastic worms, and spinnerbaits won’t work too well on creek bass. Hell, most of the fish will be SCARED by them. Now, 3/16oz and 1/8oz spinnerbaits, 3″ and 4″ plastic worms, and 1/8oz and 1/4oz crankbaits will work on those bass.

Well, you gotta remember that fish aren’t that smart, and they live mostly for food. That being said, they need their food to look like FOOD. That’s whatever is in their enviroment. Try some natural colored worms, I like Berkly Gulp, and also some of the purple with shiny specks in them. The fish in Southern Il. Love those.
    You can also try:
    Beetle Spins
    Shiners

    >I just don’t like to have TO much stuff at once, it can be overwhelming and you will not know what to use/when to use it, so just get a little at a time so you can figure it out!!!!

    Good Luck and happy fishing!

    Senkos, crank baits, spoons.

    Live bait will work best.

  • trader:

Get some small plastic grubs and rooster tails.

Beetle spins are great fish catchers. If there are a lot of snags where you fish, a weedless Texas rigged rubber worm is a great bait too. Hard to beat live bait though. Set up one rod with live bait and put it on a “Y” stick. Then you can cast an artificial with your other rig. Good luck and have fun!
