I’ve always had the best luck at dusk & dawn…I use a “Mann’s” black or purple rubber worm on a weedless hook with a small bullet weight tied onto the line before the hook.

You will more easily find larger fish in the shallows during the cool hours of early morning or late evening. During a hot day, oxygen content in the heated water is lower and the fish will be very sluggish. In order to find active, larger fish in the afternoon, fish shaded areas and deeper waters. If you can find the “hole” in a small lake, chances are good that the largest fish are hiding out down there from the heat. Use this to your advantage, and you will probably get good fish even in the afternoon.

I agree 100% with Gary, I did the same thing today at about noon and got nothin.. then at about 2:45 it started coolin down and I got a nice largemouth. Good ol worm texas rigged

i would go juging and u tie string around the jug (empty gallon of milk or old oil jugs) and put some a little fish about 4″ and let it go and remember where u set the jugs and row ur bout out 2 the jugs … ( this all takes place at nite )

or another way is to get a jig on a pole and work it up in the weeds same for a frog (at nite)

    morning about 6 or 7 until 10 and late 430 to 700

anytime, you just gotta know what to use at the different times.

Why I almost completely agree with the afore mentioned opinion that pre-dawn and near-twilight are the most productive times, it must be conceded that the fish merely move and change paterns. In the late afternoon bass in my lake go hide under the houseboats…..sometimes it will be other structure like stumps, trees, lateral deep wall etc.

So anytime you can fish is a good time….
