Theres no best bait. Usually, you just need to fine whats right, but heres a tip.

    SLOW PRESENTATION.

The water is cold, and they’re sluggish. Probably not too willing to chase down a minnow that speeds by than snap up a worm hopping across the bottom.

A good rule of thumb is the colder the water the smaller the bait. The following link give good advice on catching bass in the fall.

Ive found gold fish to work best in the winter but check and make sure its legal in the state you live in some states and some lakes will not let you use them you also might wind up with a big cat and that’s a good fight

  • UltimateFishingTackle:

As far as live bait, use live worms or shiners. For lures, use plastic worrms, jigs, lizards and creatures. The key is to fish them slow.

I’ve actually had more luck using lures.

    WHY????

Lures allow you to cover water quicker.

You ever think, hmmm, does that place hold a Bass, and after an hour of soakin’ a worm/shiner, you’re thinking “What the Hell???!”

Texas rig a 6″ Plastic Worm and work it around all sorts of cover, for the bullet weight I like a 1/8-ouncer.
