Why is my baby largemouth bass not eating?
i have a 5 inch largemouth bass in a 10 gallon tank..i had it for 2 months and for some reason he stopped eating…he ate every day for a month and half…i gave him night crawlers, crickets, minnows, every day….but for some reason he stopped eating……he hasn’t eaten anything for 2 weeks now and im worried that it might die. does anybody knows what is wrong with him..is the cold weather affecting him????

He’s lonely, I have heard that bass when kept in an aquarium need camaraderie. Also chlorinated tap water might be taking it’s toll on him?
If he looks healthy (weight wise), he’s probably getting plenty to eat. In the wild, he’d need more since he’d be trying to get away from bigger fish. In an aquarium, he’s like lots of us fat boys, sitting in front of the TV, with their hand on the remote. None of us are burning too many calories that way.
Most fish will not outgrow their enclosure, such as in an aquarium. 5 inches is sort of big for a 10 gallon tank. Bass get skinny when they don’t eat enough. If yours looks healthy it has probably reached it’s limit for this tank and will eat just enough to satisfy it’s hunger.
You also pulled him out of the wild during the fall when bass gorge up to get ready for winter and by the sounds of it he kept on eating with your help and maybe in the slower metabolism phase for winter. Keep a good eye on him. If it keeps growing it will outgrow that 10 gallon tank soon.
i got a baby largie and smallie in a 200gal tank, just moved them to my new house. there water temp is about 50 degrees now because i haven’t turned the heat on yet and they are still eating alot of minnows. they go after the littler ones and don’t touch the big ones. so i don’t think its the water temp. it sounds more like the tanks getting to small for him or he has internal parasites.a sign of internal parasite will be him rubbing up against a hard structure in the tank or rubbing sideways on the bottom. also aimlessly darting around, and shaking his head. with a little tank like that the parasites will spread quickly, over coming the fish (not enough water). external parasites will look like black spots, white worms on fins, and red sores. if you buy his food from a baitshop, stop. the bait has alot of parasites. buy all food from a petstore, like comets, or rosy. but he needs a bigger tank soon or he will die.
petstore have a parasite killer that you could use to be safe. a month ago i added a new fish and he got all my fish sick and he looked healthy, so you never know. and as he grows he needs more oxygen, if he’s opening and closing his mouth alot that might be whats wrong. if you have more Q’s write them in. been keeping wild fish for 6 year now, never had a fish die on me.
