Why is there a size limit on largemouth bass when they don’t taste good legal size?
It makes no sense that they have a size limit (min. 14″) to keep a largemouth bass. They don’t taste good when they’re over 10 inches or so. Smaller ones do taste good, but they’re not legal to keep. (I had to keep one last year because it swallowed the hook and would die anyway). But perch and crappies grow big too, and there’s no size limit on those. And they taste good any size, better than bass of any size.

If it swallows the hook cut the line, the hook will rust out. Theres a size limit because Bass are a game fish, there are bass tournaments, therefore you cant keep bass smaller than the legal limit. Never heard of a Crappy tournament. Plus you can catch plenty of crappies with a bread on a hook and not put their population in danger. Its harder to catch a bass than it is to catch crappy. And there are size limits on Perch in most areas.
The size limits are there to prevent the species from being overfished.
Half a dozen lakes around me have “slot limits” — you can keep any bass under 14″ or over 18, 20 or 21″ (it varies from lake to lake). Bass will keep growing as long as resources are available, up to their genetic potential. Harvesting smaller fish allows the others to get bigger.
well u broke the law. next time just cut the line. Dont worry the fish will still live.
Ive found that 3-4 pounders taste the best. any over that is starting to get old and loose taste.
But there still hella fun to catch
The smaller ones do taste better but the ones that are about 3-7 pounds taste even better.(there is no legal limit on catfish either)
