About how big does a bass have to be for it to be mounted?

I am going fishing for smallmouth and largemouth bass and am hoping to get 1 mounted for my wall. I know that it is an opinion thing and that any size fish can be mounted but i was just wondering what is the minimum size you would mount. thanks!

That depends on where you are going fishing. Around the midwest, 4-5 pound smallmouth bass or larger would be good to mount and 6-7 pound largemouth bass and larger would be good to mount.

If you start to head somewhere warmer, like down to Texas, Florida or over to somewhere like Lake Castaic in California it probably wouldn’t be worth mounting a largemouth bass unless it was over 10 pounds.

when I was growing up, a lot of 5, 6, 7 lb largemouths got mounted. then they introduced the Florida strain around here, now nobody mounts under 10lbs.

I think its different for many states, up here in NY bass seem small compared to places like Texas or somewhere down south. NYS record is only a little over 11 lbs.
Not many people here has ever seen a bass over 9 lbs. while southern states although still rare, can catch many.
For me, it would be 10lbs.
