Are smallmouth bass edible?

Never eaten them or have any friends who have. I know people eat strippers but not smallmouth. So if you can eat them what are their general taste and are they a bony fish like pickerel or meaty like trout. Been fishing a lot of bass lately (since shes too hot for trout) and would like to know.

Thanks.

They are eatable and are meaty like trout.

  • Kelvin:

    They are delicious!

Here is a site dedicated to cooking them

  • catfish hunter:

    yes there edible

  • Smart Fisherman:

YES! And they are great, if you cook them right. If you cook on too high of heat, or add some strange seasoning or anything else wrong, they can be nasty, as can any other fish cooked wrong.

  • castmoney:

Yes they are very edible and very tasty. I would just use regular corn meal or fish fry. Only salt and pepper to taste. Mostly all freshwater species are edible and are pretty good if cooked right. Even grass carp if you cut off the red meat but it has a lot of bones. But yes small mouth are very good and have nice flaky white meat.

  • iTz Moleman!:

They’re delicious. Meaty like trout. don’t have too much of that fishy taste and really tender.

  • BOBBER:

To me they are way better than large mouth.
