A small crank bait. Depending on the weather (clouds, no clouds, warm, raining) you should choose the bait with lots of under color if the above water conditions are cloudy, raining, etc. At least this is what my son (the bass fisherman) tells me. He will also attach a plastic worm to his crank bait at times, but only small ones for he smallies. He says the smallies LOVE those crank baits with plastic worms. Seeing as he makes money fishing, I guess he may be right. LOL.
when i take ou tmy neices and nephews i takes alot of small rostertails you will get a great result it is one of the best baits for all fish in the 2-5 lb range and sometimes you will get supprissed with something alil bigger it depends on water clarity. any ???’s email me i will be glad to help
Go to the link on the bottom and look for chart or pumpkin pepper grubs with jigs and also little crank baits they work pretty good you can also look up more small mouth bait on this site too.
any kind of crayfish bait. from tubes to creature baits. I guess it really depends on where you fishing. On Lake Erie we use a lot of tube baits and goby imitators on drop shot in deeper water. For rivers and smaller lakes I would go with tube baits, spinner baits are efective and hard body jerkbaits. Another widely used smallie bait here is a jigging spoon or a blade bait like a cicada are also effective. I guess it depends a lot on what your comfortable with and what you have confidence in. They will all catch smallmouth at one time or another.
a Tube bait works well use a basspro mellon pepper tender tube early in the year and towards the fall of the year use a rootbeer or pumkinseed colored tender tube, it works pretty good or you can try a green pumkin shakey worm with probably 1/8 oz. head. good luck and don’t get mad if you end up catching some bigger ones.
small lures work the best. Or worms.
crank baits
we use spinners, beetle spins, twister tail grubs, hair jigs, buzz baits and poppers, soft plastic worms tubes, skirted twin tail grubs, trolled or cast crankbaits!
Live bait emerald shiners, leeches or craws!
small crank bait…try different colors for different types of water.
i would say a spinnerbait,or a small crank bait
