Best weight for a tube in a river?
I like to wade fish for smallmouth bass in small rivers. If I were to use a tube, what would be the best way to weight it? A splitshot on the inside of it? A splitshot on the main line? A regular texas rig? A texas rig with a pegged weight? Or a completely weightless set up?

less than 300 pounds
a weight inside the tube. use just enough to keep it at the depth you wish to fish (currents and stuff). but use the least amount you can get by with.
depends on current but either 3/8 or 1/2 ounce i specialize in making lead lures for different types of fishing. this is all with a lead tube jig (lead molded on a hook)
I like to do the same type of fishing when I visit my family in arkansas. The only lure I use are tubes. You can make it work with a texas rig but I would advise using only a 1/8 ounce bullet weight and pegging it while tex posing the hook to keep it off rocks and laydowns. But by far the best in my opinion are the 1/8 ounce weedless tube insert heads. It gets the weight inside your tube so it has a more natural presentation. While you could use a heavier weight as one of the guys suggested, I have found that in smaller rivers or streams that going with heavier weights kills the action of my tubes. I crawl them slowly across the bottom or cast them upstream into fast flowing water and just let them drift naturally down stream. watch your line and if it stops play it safe and go ahead and set the hook. Good luck!
