can a largemouth bass breed with a smallmouth bass?
i caught a bass yesterday that looked like a largemouth (color) and it had red eyes like a smallmouth does. it weighed 4 lbs and was 19 inches. it was very aggressive. could it be largemouth/smallmouth hybrid?

A large-mouth and a small-mouth bass could breed, though it is unlikely considering the two are quite different in their behavior and where exactly in the water they like to feed and nest.
It might have been a spotted bass (commonly known as a Kentucky). Many times they are colored like a large-mouth, very greenish, but have those red eyes.
If you ever catch one that looks like that again, check to see if there is a rough patch on the tongue. If so, it’s definitely a spotted bass.
yes and they make medium mouthed bass…no lol im sure they could breed just like grizzly bears and polar bears are breeding but im going to say its highly unlikely just because of how different of a fish they are
yea its possible
but i doubt it
i like the grizzly bear and polar bear example
The polar bear and grizz? lol what about a chihuahua and a great dane? They`re both dogs….just different breeds…small mouth and large mouth…
It’s possible they could, but highly unlikely in nature.
It may have possibly been a Tiger bass or even a Gorilla bass.
(The Gorilla Bass is what we call an F1 hybrid. This term is used for what occurs when you take two different subspecies and breed them. When we breed the really-aggressive northern bass with a pure Florida-strain bass that have been selectively bred, (the Tiger Bass) we get the Gorilla Bass, which has the Florida strain’s genetics, which enables them to grow to very large sizes at a rapid rate and have the aggressiveness of the northern bass.
The resulting F1 fish the Gorilla Bass — is extremely aggressive and extremely fast-growing.)
