@ flurbsmcgurgs Yes they do but it is getting very hard to find one as the DNR keeps buying all the bass for stocking the lakes.

  • flurbsmcgurgs:

@xCB34x they sell bass as pets?

  • xCB34x:

Taking care of a Small Mouth bass is not that much differant than a large mouth except that they are a little more shy and they like rocks instead of plants to hide in. This one would hide if anyone was in the room but if I was alone he would come out and come up to the glass. They are by far the most vicious of the species. I wish I could find another one but they don’t sell them anymore in my area.

ooohhhh man thats to bad! i had a largemouth bass for five years, then he died of swimmers blatter, but now i have a new one and he is doing good, i am interested in a smalli though… anything you could tell me on how to keep them?

  • videogameplayer08:

why don`t you guys let them go? it is the right thing to do!

  • davidrl84:

    AWSOME! I want one :(

  • fishkeeperman:

Thats too bad sorry to hear that, what size tank was it? My LFS told me that live plants hlep reduce nitrates.

  • wepeeler:

    Awesome!!

  • cas094:

  • impactsangle101:

sorry to hear i have one but hes a baby alot smaller then that one BUT i’ve had him for about 4 days or so now and he FINALLY started to eat but he shares the tank with other fish and its only a 55 galllon tank but i feel its a maintained tank so hes there but regardless i got a few of these guys and they couldnt adapt to the ph and his skin was peelin and they died but this one seems healthy and adapting well but at the point where he peals theres nothing u can do maybe this will help you

  • pghHunter:

that sucks :( it is always a smart idea to have a water testing kit. it was a cyced tank right? did you change the gravel and filter cartriges at the same time?

  • newmanthecat:

Man that sucks! It’s cool you have kept him that long though. Good luck.

I have sad news to report!! My Small Mouth is dying. I have had it for 3 years now and kept a pretty good balance but for some reason it started acting weird and I took a sample of the water to the pet store and they told me it was very high in “nitrates”. I changed out the water for 7-10 days and took 10-15gl each time and it didn’t help. I think at this point it will die soon. Wish I knew what I know now.

  • Turppa21:

Im getting a smally tank soon.

  • Turppa21:

    No catch them for free!

  • Turppa21:

Yea i have the erie canal behind my house and I catch smallys all day out there.

  • ouatica:

thats a really nice fish tank

  • 3LD1ABLO:

    nice to hear that =)

  • xCB34x:

So far the bass has done very well and seems very happy. I have stated before that when the bass has reached its point that I fell it is to big for the tank I have a home already for it in a 3,000 gallon tank. He will have all the room he needs at that point.

  • fiItxon:

That bass has it made as long as the tank is large enough. It would most likely die in the wild at its age anyway, very few small bass live to be adults in the open water.

They are the most interesting to watch.

  • wontimer:

impressive video but i still say it’s wrong to keep them out of the wild.

  • canonMP830:

i’d just catch them, its more fun

  • pozatree:

I live right behind a creek in the suburbs and even there I have seen bass I’m thinking about catching them when I learn about taking care of them. Any info on taking care of bass would be great!
