Smallmouth bass gender?


is there an easy way to tell the gender of a smallmouth bass without hurting/killing it?

    yes! if u just simply look on its lower stomach a female will have a red dot. all female fish no matter what species have this . the females lay eggs from this dot. no male has it unless its body funtions r messed up

    During the spawning season is the easiest to tell with any bass. The females are generally larger and are of course fatter and loaded with eggs, while the smaller ones, or buck bass as some folks call ‘em, are the males.

    And on a side note, the above answer has got to be ONE OF THE WORST ANSWERS I’ve ever seen regarding a fish’s gender.

    GMB, I have to contradict your answer man. You could catch a 1 year old female and a 4 year old male.

    Females on the underbelly will have more of a slit where their…anus is. Males just have a hole.

    So, Male = Circle

    Female = Rough triangular shape
