  • This video was purchased as an antedote to cabin fever. As such it did not dissappoint. There was a fair amount of useful technical information imparted on this disc, but the real treat was the nearly non-stop fishing action. The fishing took place on a variety of waters and in different conditions, on streams and lakes. The segment on fishing the whitefly hatch was particularly interesting.

  • None stop small mouth action, I am just getting into fly-fishing and this DVD has helped alot in my ability to catch all sorts of fish, especially the bass.

It took me three times to watch this DVD all the way thru, the first two times I fell asleep and the third time I wished I had. If you don’t mind watching someone do the same thing over, and over, and over, and over, and over again, (and I don’t mean catching anything just casting) then this DVD may be for you. It wasn’t for me.

It seemed like the audio and video were competing for which one could be the worst. Not only did the audio vary up and down, it also picked up the trolling motor, the line slapping every time Chris stripped line (and he was doing that constantly) to what sounded like cars going by to a plane flying overhead which actually drown Chris out, but he kept talking anyway.

The videographer got so tired of filming Chris casting & retreiving, instead of panning out to wide angle to get the cast and then zooming in on the fly (which he did on the first couple casts) he just stayed zoomed out then had to frantically pan back and forth to find the fly. Which was made worse when Chris tied on a sinking fly, then the vidoegrapher had to try to find where the fly line went in the water. There were way too many shots of the river going by with no action at all and no one in the picture. And way too much panning without a purpose.

It would have also been nice to see Chris catch at least one of the smallmouth he is seen holding on the cover, but that didn’t happen.

This is one of those DVDs that has crept into the fly fishing market that is striclty “Watch Me Go Fishing” that promises all kinds of information but in all actuallity has very little content.

Instead of this DVD I recommend Fly Fishing for Smallmouth Bass by Harry Murray or any of the Left Kreh DVDs or any of Bob Clouser’s smallmouth books..
