What is the best way to catch smallmouth bass?
Now i would like to go fishing mostly for smallmouth bass in the holloway reservoir in lapeer MI but i have never fished there before and if you have i would love to know what the best way to catch smallmouth bass is and if you catch other fish there then id like to hear what and how also but if you have never fished in the holloway reservoir but you have fished for smallmouth in very sandy brown water then id love to hear any tips thanks a lot!

I don’t know about where you are fishing but I can tell you that I always use zoom worms that are neon color, especially in brown water. You can buy a specific kind that has this salt looking stuff on it and they usually work pretty good.
with an original 3 inch floating rapala in shallow water 2-6 ft—— over rocky bottom
a cranckbait will be useful
something big(maybe 3 1/2- 4 inch) loud, and colorful, due to the condition of the water reducing their ability to see, like a rattling firetiger crankbait,or if they’re less competitive for food,a smaller rapala class lure,or anything that still creates noise and vibration.
crawfish! softplastic or crank. they can even be a red shad crank. i use rage tail space monkey watermelon and it works excelllent.
Fishing a live chub will be the best for bait. For lures a wacky rigged Senko will do the trick.
I would try a jig and a curly tail grub.
ok here is how to catch a smallmouth follow these steps
Be willing to explore the water to locate smallmouth bass. During the summer they’ll settle into a general locality but otherwise they’re always on the move. In the spring they relate to shallow water in the spawning areas, then move out to the deeper water where they can be as far down as 45 feet. In the summer the bass migrate back into the shallower water to put on the feed bag before the lean months set in.
Use good electronics on big smallmouth lakes. Lake Erie is one of the best smallmouth lakes in the world and requires mobility to locate the fish. Put the transducer on the outside of the boat and you’ll gain about 30 to 40 percent more detail than the standard in-the-boat models provide.
Try a drop-shot rigged with either a Berkley Gulp! four-inch minnow or a Berkley Gulp! Goby. Both baits imitate natural forage beautifully. A Berkley four-inch hand-poured Power Bait finesse worm is another ideal candidate for the end of your jighead when the bass are finicky. Just locate the fish on the fish finder and drop your rig straight down. Jig the bait ever so lightly. The purpose of the drop-shot rig is finesse and it doesn’t take much to get a hungry smallmouth bass’ attention. Avoid yanking the bait hard and just trust that a twitch or two will do the job
If you have a hard time sitting still try the traditional drift and drag method with a tube bait. Tossing the tube and then giving it a sharp snap when it hits the bottom will lift it about six to eight feet. Sometimes this works better than a finesse approach, especially on calm days.
Use good line and a smooth swivel to reduce line twist. A lot of anglers will spend a lot of money on equipment and then use inferior line and tie on a cheap swivel. Straight line helps with fighting the fish and avoiding break-offs.
