lake erie in east mi and north ohio that is the best smallmouth in the country even 10 plus lbs some real trophies up here

“Best” can be a nebulous concept. What do you mean by it? Size? Numbers? Sportiness? Challange?

There are several locations that meet anybody’s criterium. The world record, and many other trophies, came from Dale Hollow Lake, on the Kentucky/Tennessee border.

The Western Basin of Lake Erie has long had a reputation for great numbers of big fish. That fishery has improved as a result of the zebra mussel invasion. The southern basin of Lake Michigan has also developed as a trophy fishery for that reason.

Maine and New Brunswick offer some relatively unexplored smallmouth fishing; in some of the prettiest country you’ll ever find.

And, if you’re in to canoeing, don’t neglect the Boundary Waters area straddling the Minnasota/Ontario border for really great smallmouth fishing.
