Where are some locations I can fish near Ocala Florida for freshwater species with no boat?
I am heading down to Ocala Florida for vacation and would like to bank fish for some freshwater species of fish preferable Largemouth bass. Can you give me some access points on rivers or lakes that I can fish from the shoreline? Thanks

About fifteen miles north of Ocala is Orange lake and Lake Lochloosa. There is a fishing pier there and there is also a marina where you can rent a boat if you like. The lakes are loaded with crappie and they’re easy to catch on minnows.
The town of High Springs (north of Gainesville, Florida) has a number of spring-fed streams nearby that are very fun to fish. The water is SUPER clear making Fluorocarbon line a must; but the Bass get HUGE in that area because very few people target them. The town itself is interesting to check out because of the many different antique galleries and its “old timey” theme. High Springs would be perfect for a married couple- your wife/girlfriend could explore the town while you fish!

Otherwise, the closest good fishing would be inside the Ocala National Forest. There are 100′s of ponds/lakes you can fish in and around the park- http://www.bassonline.com/ocala_forest_lakes.html
And, of course, (famous) Rodman Reservoir is very close!
Salt Springs can be good for fishing. However, due to it’s clear water (once again) you DEFINITELY need Fluorocarbon line.
Best lures for that region?
Due to most lakes and ponds in the Ocala region having major weed growth Soft Plastics dominate for Bass. “Wacky” and “Texas Rigged” weedless worms/lizards can be very productive. Suspending Stick-baits (Husky Jerk) and no-rattle Cranks are productive as well. The early morning/late evening Topwater bite should not be overlooked. Spinnerbaits work well in those ponds and lakes that aren’t “gin clear”.
A “sure bet” is a 5-6 inch Shiner!
Although you CAN use lighter line for fishing, (understand) the average Bass is in the 3lb range on many of these waters, (with 5-6Lbers very common). With the amount of line cutting structure and weeds you should use (at least) 12 – 14LB line when Bass fishing. (That’s why Fluorocarbon is so important!)
And if you decide to fish with Shiners, Braided lines equaling (at least) 40LB is common.
Hope this helps?
