Why are boat prices in places like Florida and California so much less than in Kansas / Oklahoma area?
I have looked at a lot of fish/ski boats to buy and there is a huge difference in price for similar units. Example: I found a 2004 Triton Bass boat for $2000 in Miami, FL and a similar boat in Oklahoma City costs $14,000! That’s a huge difference!
I’m guessing it has something to do with being around saltwater?

Most Bass boats in Florida are fishing freshwater rivers and lakes. Even boats stored near salt water, like Tampa Bay, wouldn’t make that big a difference. There is another answer from personal experience. A lot of people retire to Florida, but age creeps up on you and you can’t do what you did a few years ago. You don’t need the money so you sell cheap. Oki-es, love their bass boats second only to their wives, so you got to pry their boats from their hands with money! Classic supply and demand.
cause theres alot of cheap people in florida[if you know what i mean]
There are a lot more boats in Florida but I’m thinking that the difference you’re seeing is due to more than the law of supply and demand. It could be the 14K boat is in much better condition / better equipped than the 2K boat.
With boats it’s usually very hard to get more than you pay for, sometimes you get a lot less, caveat emptor.
because on the coast there are a lot of boats- in ok there isnt as many
You’ve gotten some good answers so far but here’s another thought to consider…transportation.
Where are the boats manufactured? Many of these folks are located in the SE US and West Coast. If you buy a boat that was made say in GA and you happen to live in OK it’s got to come to you via truck. While a great means of transporting the boat it is also expensive.
I can’t understand though why there is such a significant difference in the prices you state except to say that it may be due to the manufacturer. Some use excellent building materials and have more layers of glass than others. So without knowing who the manufacturer of the 2nd vessel is it’s really kind of tough to make a call why this is so different in pricing.
I can promise you this. The $2k Triton in FL is not the Same $14k Triton in OK. Sure there are more boats in Florida. But the environment that they are used in is harsher than the mid west. I can also say that in general that Florida boats are used more often given the warmer climate allowing year round boating.
If there really is a $2k 2004 Triton in Miami, it is probably ragged out with a blown motor.
Can you provide a link to the ad for the Miami Boat?
They are cheaper there because there is much more competition to sell a boat in Florida, where people can use them all the time. Compared to a midwestern state where in a big city, you might only find one large boat dealer.
